AFTERNOON WALK: Vale of Wardour
2:00 pm, Saturday, 09 August, 2014
Explore the landscape of the Nadder Valley with Isobel Geddes
Explore the landscape of the Vale of Wardour: the Nadder valley demonstrates the way the underlying geology affects the landscape and the building stones that give local character to the villages.
Old Wardour Castle is essentially a late 14th C fortified mansion, remodelled nearly 200 years later (open to the public courtesy of English Heritage WC but no cafe).
The walk will go from Old to New Wardour castles, past a mill on the Nadder and through Donhead St. Andrew (has a good food pub). The distance is 5-6 miles, taking about 3 hours on lanes & footpaths (maybe with stiles) but no big hills!
Meet 2 pm in the car park at Old Wardour Castle ST 917 249
