Bush Barrow Lozenge

The large gold lozenge measures 18 cms by 15 cms and originally lay on the chest of the skeleton. It is made of very thin gold sheet, has a gentle domed profile, and was originally mounted over a wooden board and held in place by pins. Its original purpose is uncertain. Interpretations have ranged from an elaborate button, to a surveying device for planning Stonehenge.

The lozenge is featured on the BBC Wiltshire History of the World top 10 items!
