Stephan’s inspiration
Stephan’s work is inspired by a beaker in the museum collection.
Between the end of the Neolithic period and the beginning of the Bronze Age, a range of influences from the Continent appear to have changed the way people chose to bury their dead in Britain. The name ‘Beaker ’comes from the shape of the pottery cups associated with this culture, although it also involved distinctive weapons, decorations and burial practices. The cups were often found placed next to bodies in graves, along with copper or bronze daggers, amber beads and status items such as stone battle axes. Irregular lines were etched onto the beakers.
