75 years after Easy Company of the 101st Airborne dropped into Normandy in the opening hours of D-day, Breaking Ground Heritage will be examining the site in which they lived beforehand. After analysis of air photographs and a subsequent geophysical survey, the team will dig some excavation trenches to try to locate evidence for the American presence on site – their food, their lives in 1944.
The visit will start at the Aldbourne Heritage Centre where volunteers from the Centre will lead a walk to key related sites in the village. Archaeologist of the Year, Richard Osgood, will lead a tour of the excavation.
The cost includes a donation to Breaking Ground Heritage and the Aldbourne Heritage Centre.
Ticket £10 per head. Maximum 30 = 3 groups of 10 each.
Meet at Aldbourne Heritage Centre – 2pm.
