A Prehistoric Burial Mound and Anglo-Saxon Cemetery at Barrow Clump, Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire: English Heritage and Operation Nightingale excavations

An illustrated lecture by Richard Osgood, Senior Archaeologist, Defence Infrastructure Organisation

From 2012 an archaeological team built on the work of English Heritage and Lt Col Hawley to investigate the barrow mound of Barrow Clump on Salisbury Plain. What made this site so special was not only that it revealed a 6th Century Anglo-Saxon cemetery, but also that much of the work was done by wounded military personnel. This talk will consider the importance of the site, the nature of the finds and the stories of those military people involved.

Saturday 11 January 2020, 2.30pm. Pre-booking essential.
Afternoon lectures last approx. one hour and are held in the Museum’s Lecture Hall. Located on the first floor it can be accessed via our lift.
