Romano-British Pewter in Wiltshire

1,500 years ago, groups of people across Wiltshire were carefully burying large collections of their best pewter tableware. Where they offering to the gods or just hiding them away?
Wil Partridge, Wiltshire Finds Liason Officer, will discuss the where, what and why of this peculiar practice.

Wil will cover the number of recent finds of late Roman Pewter from within Wiltshire, focussing on a sizeable hoard of pewter tableware buried within a large tank, discussing the hoards themselves as well as within the context of the wider corpus of pewter finds within the county.

Afternoon lectures last approx. one hour and are held in the Museum’s Lecture Hall. Located on the first floor it can be accessed via our lift.
