Mike Neilson has been making a replica of the Lacock Cup for the Museum. He will talk about the details that he has uncovered about how the original cup was made and the surprising sophistication of medieval silversmiths.
The Lacock Cup is a masterpiece of English medieval silver and was made for the top table at a feast held by a noble. It was alter given to St Cyriac’s Church in Lacock. It was purchased jointly by the British Museum and the Wiltshire Museum in 2014, the first joint purchase by the British Museum and a non-national museum.
