OUTING: Erlestoke Woods

* SOLD OUT * If you would like to be added to a waiting please email hello@wiltshiremuseum.org.uk
An afternoon walk led by Isobel Geddes.

Join Isobel for a walk along the wooded escarpment of Salisbury Plain and the tranquil Erlestoke Park Wood below. During the 18th century, the local landowner moved village houses down to the current road to create Erlestoke Park, so although it is now a well-established wood, evidence of landscaping involving dams, cascades and waterfalls can still be seen – all possible because of the springs emerging from the Greensand below the Chalk – the Gault Clay at the base of these rocks preventing further downward movement of groundwater.
