Salisbury Plain Safari

*POSTPONED* A new date to be arranged. Email hello@wiltshiremuseum.org.uk to be added to the Waiting List.

World War 1 expert Richard Broadhead and Museum Director, David Dawson, will lead a minibus safari across part of the Salisbury Plain Training Area.

The exact route will be confirmed once military training requirements are known, but we intend to see World War 1 training trenches, World War 1 mine crater and tree carvings dating to World War 1 and World War 2. We will also visit the church at Figheldean to see the graffiti left by World War 1 Anzac solders and find out about the ‘spreading chestnut tree’.

We will also explore a range of archaeological sites on the Plain – including barrows, settlement sites and possibly a causewayed camp.

We have the use of a minibus while on the Plain, and use own cars to visit Figheldean Church.

Cost: £25 (£20 members) – maximum number 12. Lunch is not provided, but we will stop at a local pub.

Meeting place: to be advised, but on Salisbury Plain.
