WALK: Bratton Castle & Westbury White Horse landscape

A 3.25 mile (2 – 2.5 hour) walk led by Isobel Geddes (along footpaths, tracks & lanes) around Bratton Castle, the hill-fort above Westbury white horse, including the springs by Bratton Church (steep hill). There are spectacular views from the chalk escarpment over the Avon & Biss valleys to the Cotswolds and Mendips. Meet Tuesday 20th June 2017 at 6.30pm in the car park for the Westbury White Horse OS Grid Reference ST 899 513.

Stout footwear, protective clothing to suit the prevailing weather conditions and reasonable mobility will be required (participants must
be able to walk at least four miles at a reasonable pace). Walk includes a steep hill and is expected to take about 2.5 hours.

Isobel Geddes is a geologist, writer and Blue Badge Guide who regards archaeology and subsequent human history as just the latest stage in the history of our planet. She has introduced people to the local historic sites for a number of years. As well as guiding, she wrote Hidden Depths: Wiltshire’s Geology and Landscapes, published in 2000 by Ex Libris Press. Subsequently she contributed walks for The Cream of South Wiltshire Walks (Hobnob Press, 2002) and wrote a chapter on the geological history of the Marlborough Downs in the English Heritage book The Avebury Landscape – Aspects of the field archaeology of the Marlborough Downs in 2005 (edited by Graham Brown, David Field & David McOmish & published by Oxbow Books). She also produces short geology & landscape guidescovering local places of interest.

Cancellation and Refund Policy – as a small independent charity we have a number of fixed costs, and cannot afford to run events at a loss. In the event of cancellation by the purchaser:

* More than 14 days before the event – full refund*
* Between 14 days and 5 days – 50% refund*
* Less than 5 days – no refund
*A £2.50 administration fee will be deducted from all refunds.

If we have a waiting list, or are able to resell the ticket before the event, then a full refund will be issued, less the £2.50 administration fee.

If events, lectures, outings or workshops are cancelled at short notice by the Society a full refund will be offered.
