WALK: Murhill, Avoncliff and Winsley

A circular afternoon walk led by Isobel Geddes.

A 5km (3 mile) circular walk starting and finishing in Winsley. Visit the disused Murhill quarry, an inclined tramway (a few of the original rails can be seen near the wharf where the stone was loaded onto barges on the K&A canal), Avoncliff aqueduct, a tufa spring and pumping station, Turleigh Trows spring (at the boundary of the Fullers Earth and Great Oolite) and a few geological features in walls around Winsley.

Date: Saturday 10 September
Start Time: 2.00 pm. Walk is expected to last a couple of hours or so.
Park and meet: in Winsley at the junction of Quarry Close and Limpley Stoke Road. Grid Ref: ST 796 609 Nearest Postcode: BA15 2NP.

Cost: £12 (£10 WANHS members)

Terms and Conditions

Stout footwear, protective clothing to suit the prevailing weather conditions and reasonable mobility will be required. Please ensure that you bring water and snacks; this is particularly important in hot weather.
The event may be postponed if adverse weather is forecast.
Unless sold out, bookings will close at 9 am on the day of the outing.
