ONLINE TALK: Working together: British Museum and the Wiltshire Museum

Lisa Brown, Curator of the Wiltshire Museum, tells the stories between the loans between our two museums.

  • World of Stonehenge - we have lent finds from Bush Barrow, the Upton Lovell Shaman burial and West Kennet long barrow. Find out how the loans work
  • Symbols of Power - the British Museum have loaned us gold-decorated daggers from the Royal Cemetery at Ur, Ancient Egypt and a replica of a dagger from the Royal cemetery in Mycenae. Find out what links these symbols of power with our Bush Barrow finds now on display at the British Museum and the gruesome story of the dagger from Ur
  • Aldbourne Cup - this spectacular Bronze Age incense cup was excavated by Canon Greenwell in 1878 and donated to the British Museum in 1879. This important burial group has never before been displayed in Wiltshire.

In the Q&A session after the talk, David mentioned that replicas of the Aldbourne Cup were commissioned by Aldbourne Heritage Centre - one showing the Cup as it is now, and one as it would have looked when it was newly made. For more details of the replicas - see this article on the Potted History website.
