An exhibition of artworks inspired by the prehistoric heritage of the UK and with Egyptian influences
Dave Gunning is a Fine Artist who has exhibited at Wiltshire Museum on many occasions.
His main inspiration to continue to make ‘on site’ drawing originates from an encounter at Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber back in 1984.
I drew this monument in the rain, the encounter changed my life. After finishing the drawing, I felt the need to search out other ancient sites, the feeling of tremendous energy has never left me. 40 years later I am still travelling and drawing. I make prints back in my studio combined with steel etched works. I now live in Bridgnorth, Shropshire where we have studios, and our family gallery is situated in Ironbridge nearby. My main aim as an artist has been to promote and record our ancient sites. I have work in many private and public collections. The late Queen Elizabeth II supported my ancient monument work by accepting a large collection of small etchings into the Royal Collection at Windsor. I have exhibited these etchings with drawings and steel etched work continually promoting and reminding people of our wonderful megalithic heritage. It is a great privilege to be exhibiting at Wiltshire Museum again and so special too.
It is the first time all three sets of the small monument prints have been exhibited together.
The exhibition will be on display at Wiltshire Museum from Saturday 14 December 2024 to Saturday 22 February 2025
Originals and Prints will be available for sale - more details to come.
