Originally published in 2015 to compliment the documentary filmed by Devizes Television, commemorating the time Devizes was used as a film set for the 1967 adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd, starting Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, Alan Bates and Peter Finch. This booklet contains photographs of the filming and interviews with the local extra’s.

Reprinted 2022 for the Hardy’s Wessex: The landscapes that inspired a writer exhibition 28th May to 30th October 2022 across the Wessex Partnership Museums: Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum.
