Day course: Stone Carving with Andrew Ziminski

This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners looking to pick up the basic skills required to carve stone.

You will set out and create a relief carving of an Owl designed by Thomas Hardy when he was working as an Architect at Turnworth Church in Dorset.  The Bath stone we will use is easy to carve and and you will be able to take it home with you.

Andrew is a SPAB William Morris Craft Fellow and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and as a Partner of Minerva Stone Conservation Ltd works all over the South West to conserve our built heritage. His best selling book The Stonemason was published in 2021. For more details about Andrew, see his website.

All tools and materials, including the stone, are provided on the day.

Date:  Sunday 10 July or Sunday 4 September

Time: 10.30 am to 4 pm

Lunch: is not provided - bring your own to eat at the Museum or nearby Hillworth Park, or visit one of the many cafes in Devizes Market Place.

Cost:  £110 per person (to include all materials).
