×August 2021 update: We are currently preparing for our major Eric Ravilious: Downland Man exhibition, which opens on 25 September. As a result, it will take longer than usual to respond to enquiries. We will aim to respond once the exhibition is open.

Collections overview

Our collections are Designated as being of National Significance and are a unique resource for those researching the archaeology, history, art or natural history of Wiltshire.

We have over 100,000 objects on our online database, with over 10,000 images now online. Almost all our object collections are now online, including art, archaeology, natural sciences and photographs. The only major sections still being added are printed books and maps. Many of the collections are stored on site and we also have an off-site store for bulk archaeological archives and our agricultural collections.

We do what we can to help researchers and enquirers , including school children undertaking projects, college students, undergraduates, graduates and post-graduates preparing dissertations and theses, as well as members of the public undertaking personal projects including family history research.
