Devizes is on the Explore Wiltshire Smartphone App

The new app created by Wiltshire Council features information about historical landmarks, cultural sites and significant events that have helped to shape Wiltshire's landscape. The free, easy to use location-aware app, also includes historic photos, engravings and information from the archives of the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre. The Devizes app features a family-friendly 'hunt' and trails for the Medieval town and the Battle of Roundway developed by the Wiltshire Museum.

Devizes Town Trail

The Trust for Devizes has participated in the national Heritage Open Day for many years although 2020 was a difficult year for us. In 2021. we can again open some of our historic buildings for public access. However, at the end of July 2020, we embarked on a project to digitise the Devizes Town Trail, with the aim of making it available online. If you aren't able to visit Devizes in person this year, you can spend a few minutes viewing the digitised Town Trail, and maybe dream about visiting Devizes some time soon.

The Trail was first published in 1975 and the 7th Version of the Trail was launched in 2017. For the 2020 Heritage Open Days, the Trust commissioned local photographer James Harrison to produce videos of ten of the many iconic buildings in Devizes. Despite the typical August weather, the project was delivered within the tight timescale. The paper based Town Trail is available from Devizes Books and the Wiltshire Museum for £2.50.
