The Wessex Museums Trust is seeking a Financial Lead Trustee who holds strong connections to the region, has financial management skills, and has a passion for art, culture and heritage.

Wessex Museums comprises four museums which tell the stories of Dorset and Wiltshire from prehistoric times to the present day – Dorset Museum, Poole
Museum, The Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum. Together we form the charity, the Wessex Museums Trust and are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO). Our ambition is to inspire more people to explore and enjoy the outstanding art and heritage of our region.

It is an exciting time for Wessex Museums. This year we have seen a series of pioneering initiatives come to fruition including an artist-in-residence programme, our partnership interpretation strategy and the launch of our new brand identity. In summer 2021 we will present a major exhibition on the life and work of Thomas Hardy which will be displayed simultaneously across the four museums, before touring to other venues nationally. Alongside this, the Wessex Museums Trust is embarking on a major new phase of organisational development.

At such a pivotal time for the charity we are looking for one trustee to take a financial lead for the charity. This is not a traditional Treasurer’s role, but rather an opportunity to provide sound financial oversight and help shape the financial strategy for an organisation with ambitions to grow in the region. As such, experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:

  • Financial management and strategy
  • Organisational/charity leadership and development
  • Business and enterprise
  • Fundraising
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Digital strategy
