WALK: Folklore of Canalside Plants – guided walk (1 pm)

Join folklorist and Engagement Officer for Wiltshire Museum, Claire Slack, for a casual stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes exploring the folklore and cultural heritage of some of the plants and trees we’ll find along the way.

This FREE one-hour walk will take you through myths and legends, folk medicine, wild food, customs and traditions from around the world, and even a witch’s spell or two, without leaving Devizes.

It is one of many events taking place between 3 to 6 May 2024 as part of Grow Devizes, a collaborative weekend of events to help our town grow in both nature and community. Find out more at www.docadevizes.org.uk/grow-devizes/.

This walk is suitable for people of all ages and will follow a relatively flat and wheelchair accessible section of the canal path.

We’ll travel less than 1 mile over 1 hour (plenty of time for stopping to chat about the things growing by the wayside).

This is an outdoor event so please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear for whatever the British weather may throw at us and bring a drink/snacks/suncream with you if you might need it. Well behaved dogs (on leads) welcome.

To find out more, please email Claire on claire.slack@wiltshiremuseum.org.uk.
