Summary: 7 colour, 25 black and white photographs of The Green, Froxfield, Wiltshire. Photographs are black and white unless stated otherwise. 1-6 - Ivy Cottage (Thackets). 1 - colour photograph of Ivy Cottage (now Thackets), The Green Cottage and Forge Cottage. 2 - Ivy cottage with The Limes in the background. 3 - Ivy cottage, a large sign "Refreshments" is above the door and a woman is stood just inside the gate. Ivy cottage, early 1900's, a group of three men, two women, a boy and girl, with four bicycles, are posing for the camera in front of the cottage wall. 5 - Mrs Nell Dixon standing inside the gate of Ivy cottage, Mr Harry Dixon and family were tenants until they purchased the cottage in 1922. 6 - a view of Edgar Dixon leaning on the gatepost of Ivy cottage. 7 and 8 - Green Farm, colour photographs. 7 - Green Farmhouse, formerly the village shop until 1950's. 8 - Green Farm yard just prior to the demolition of the buildings for housing in 2000. 9 and 10 - Sunnydene. 9 - colour photograph, front elevation, built, owned and occupied by the Dixon family, 1932 - 93. 10 - Mrs Harry Dixon looking down the garden. 11 and 12 - New Buildings. 11 - Mrs Pike and her daughter Pansy standing at the doorway of one of the brick and flint cottages known as New Buildings. 12 - colour photograph of the front elevation of New Buildings. 13 - The blacksmiths shop, demolished when the A4 was constructed, blacksmiths Mr Jasper Chapman, left and Mr George Wells, right, a small boy is standing in between them. The adjoining cottage was occupied by Mr George Wells and family. 14-17 - Mr Savage's shop. 14 - a view across the green towards the shop. 15 - front elevation of the shop around 1938-40, numerous goods can be seen in the windows. 16 - John Savage, as a child, standing inside the fence with the green behind. 17 - John is joined by Raymond Knott, (the village policeman's son), these last two snowy scenes are believed to have been taken during the hard winter of 1940. 18 - a group of 24 children and their teacher on The Green, c. 1910. 19 - Miss Hilda Dixon seated in the driver's seat of a car at The Green. 20-30 - roads around The Green. 20 - colour photograph, western view looking down the old Bath Road. 21 - framed by flint walls, looking towards The Green with the blacksmith's shop in the midground and The College in the background. 22 and 23 - panoramic view of The Green from the flint wall edging the road on the left, to the Baker's shop on the right where three men a a boy are standing. 24 - taken around 1900, this view is of a horse and cart possibly making a delivery at the end of The Green, a woman with a large dog and three children can be seen on the left, a man and woman are standing at the edge of the road, two men a working on/near the cart and a woman is standing by the fence. 25 - a photograph of an etching of The Green and roads, the wall in the right is where the village hall is now situated. 26 - looking west from the blacksmith's shop, Mr Charlie Naish can be seen on his bread delivery, three young children can also be seen. 27 - looking west, Ivy Cottage is in the right foreground with the "new school" in Church Road, a coal wagon is in the left midground being watched by children and a young boy is pushing a bicycle in the foreground. 28 - looking from the road, across The Green, towards "New Buildings" on the left, Mr Naish, with empty baskets, can be seen on the right, behind him is a horse and cart carrying a large barrel and on The Green are a lady and child, a group of four children and a horse. 29 - looking across The Green from Mr Savage's farmyard. 30 - looking across The Green from the old Bath road, the cottages in Church Road, since demolished and Mr Savage's shop can be seen. 31 - colour photograph of chickens on The Green, The College can be seen in the left background with Manor Park on the right. 32 - the village pump on The Green.
