Saving the Assizes – a new home for the Wiltshire Museum

We are delighted with the news that the future of the Devizes Assize Court has been secured with the aim of restoring it as the new home for the Wiltshire Museum. This landmark building will transform the Museum as a significant tourist destination and is an important part of the regeneration strategy for the Devizes Wharf.

This will be a long-term project, taking between 8 and 10 years, and will depend on the support and enthusiasm of our members and the local community.

Mr. Martin Nye, Chair of the Wiltshire Museum, said: “We are excited to be working to secure the long-term future of this historic building, which will provide a great location to share our nationally important collections with the widest possible range of audiences. This is the beginning of a major project that will rely on enormous energy, enthusiasm and support from the community.  Please do get involved – you can sign up at www.devizesassizecourt.org.uk to register your interest in learning more.”

The website of the recently created Devizes Assize Court Trust has more details, including a series of Frequently Asked Questions.
